SUMMARY:alva noto + ryuichi sakamoto 's' tour 2011
LOCATION:AB Theater (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:Early May will see the the final release in a series on\nwhich minimal electronica artist Alva Noto (or: Carsten\nNicolai) and Japanese pianist/composer Ryuichi Sakamoto\nmeet. Nothing is left to chance with this duo. The first\nletters of the title of every release in the series -\n‘vrioon’ – ‘insen’ – ‘revep’ – ‘utp_’\n– ‘summvs’ - together form the word 'virus'.\nThe title (‘summvs’) of the concluding piece and also\nfifth album in the series refers to the Latin word\n'summa' (or sum) and 'versus' (that\nunderlines the unique collaboration of both artists without\nundermining their unique individuality). So that is the way\nthat the minimal electronica of Alva Noton (who just\nrecently released the impressive album 'Mimikry'\nwith Blixa Bargeld) and the sober\, equally minimal piano\nstyle of Sakamoto perfectly complement each other. Minimal\nbeauty\, so subtle and true that it almost hurts. Listen\nhere to a track from the CD. "Exploring the\npotential for interaction and tension between electronic and\nacoustic instrumentation\, the creative interplay between\nalva noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto makes for beautiful\,\nrewarding music which only gradually reveals its\nsubtleties." (BBC) SILENCE IS SEXY is the antithesis\nof AB's just recently released brand new series THE ART\nOF NOISE. The Art Of Noise refers to the futuristic manifest\nlaunched by Italian Luigi Russolo (who also built ‘noise\nmachines’ as instruments) in 1913 and it throws light upon\nthe (underground) noise scene. Silence Is Sexy focuses on\nthe so-called (new) contemporary classical composers that\nare increasingly gaining popularity in the field of ‘pop\nmusic’. They are engaged in the world of classical music\nbut are often willing to have electronica trickle through in\ntheir work\, often resulting in a unique sound. AB has\nalready wholeheartedly embraced this movement in the past\,\nhaving welcomed the likes of Max Richter\, Hauschka\, Jóhan\nJóhannsson\, Ludovico Einaudi\, Nico Muhly\, Peter\nBroderick\, Ólafur Arnalds or Nils Frahm. The title Silence\nIs Sexy hails from the Einstürzende Neubauten album of the\nsame name\, from 2000. The band that previously made\n‘industrial noise’ and currently honours the power of\nsilence. \n
