SUMMARY:Alex Roeka
LOCATION:AB Club (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Bruxelles)
DESCRIPTION:His last album\, “Beet van de liefde” won him an\nEdison\, the equivalent of our MIAs. The jury said: ‘In\nunusually beautiful\, sensuous lines\, you can feel\nRoeka’s turbulence and unrest as you pass through all the\nstages of love. Both lyrically and musically\, this is a\nhigh point in his oeuvre. What stands out in his new\nprogramme\, “Zachtaardig vergooid”\, is his social\nengagement and the ever-intensifying reminiscence’. On his\nbrand-new album “Zachtaardig vergooid” Roeka sketches a\ntale of love and turmoil\, joie de vivre and longing\,\nagainst a background shot through with the zeitgeist and\nentangled with the past. Singing from the toes\, speaking\nfrom the heart; that is Alex Roeka. And all this with that\nfamiliar voice of his: raw\, weathered\, sometimes hushed or\nelated\, but always incomparably his own. His lyrics are\npoetic\, sharp and sincere. Once again\, he is accompanied\nby his musical accomplices\, who distinguish themselves in\nvirtuoso melodies and in restrained subtlety. Alex Roeka\nmoves\, excites\, surprises and amazes and never fails to\ncharm an audience with his nimble self-mockery and humour\nwith a sense of perspective. This album was produced by\nFrans Hagenaars. David Poltrock handled the musical\ndirection and arrangements and Mauro played on a couple of\nsongs.‘From subdued to exuberant\, from chanson to sturdy\nrock\, from Brel to Waits. Alex Roeka is a spirited\nwordsmith and impassioned admirer.' Oor music\nmagazine‘His language is unprecedentedly evocative; by\nsome distance\, Roeka is the most poetic of all singers in\nthe Dutch language.’ De Stentor Alex Roeka: vocals &\nguitarJaco Benckhuijsen: piano\, Wurlitzer & organMischa\nKool: double bass & electric bassRowin Tettero:\ndrumsPeter van Os: accordion & trombone\n\nhttps://www.abconcerts.be/en/agenda/alex-roeka/a105J000001wghLQAQ
