SUMMARY:A Place to Bury Strangers + Amenra + Drums are for Parades
LOCATION:AB Club - staand (Anspachlaan 110\, 1000 Brussel)
DESCRIPTION:7:00 pm SOUNDTRACK BY… DJ VUILE NAALD (Conspiracy\nRecords)8:00 pm DRUMS ARE FOR PARADESTrio Drums are for\nParades hail from Ghent and deal in noise-rock of the\ndirtiest kind. But with class. Start searching for the\nexceptionally beautiful 10 inch release (still our favourite\naudio medium) carrying the poetic title 'Artificial\nSacrificial Darkness in The Temple of The Damned'. This\nEP was - remarkably enough - produced by Niek Meul from Das\nPop and released via the brand new Skeleton Ears label that\noperates under the title Stupid Music Label For Stupid\nNeglected Bands. By the way\, guitarist/singer Wim Reygaert\nwas a director in an other life and he recently released the\nshort film ‘Mompelaar’ (Mumbler) with a cast consisting\nof the likes of Serge Buyse (’t Hof Van Commerce) and also\nGunter Lamoot who won the prize for best Short in Berlin.\nFinally: Drums Are For Parades also loves style… their\nT-shirts were designed by artist Manor Grunewald.9:00 pm\nAMENRAHailing from Kortrijk\, active since ’99 and finally\nin the AB: Amenra. Indeed\, written as one word please\,\nbecause Amenra links the biblical 'Amen' with the\nEgyptian god 'Ra'. Amenra already knocked our socks\noff a few years ago at Pukkelpop\, with their heavy\npost-metal\, noise\, sludge\, slowcore... For that matter\,\njust as their releases (which answer to the names ‘Mass\nI’\, ‘Mass II’\, ‘Mass III’ and ‘Mass IIII’\nand were mainly released via the Belgian record label\nHypertension). Do we hear Neurosis or Isis in there?\nFrontman annex brulboei Colin Van Eeckhout: "People\noften say that we remind them of those bands\, but we all\nlisten to very different things. Our greatest inspiration is\nlife itself." At Eurosonic\, the band convinced us with\na brand new cast. Because a well prepared person is worth\ntwo – definitely start looking for their just recently\nreleased\, very limited release book ‘Church Of Ra’…\n10:00 pm A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERSGonzo Circus\, the\n‘independent magazine for innovative music and culture’\nonce described it as "Biting and amazingly\nbeautiful". We couldn't describe the music of this\n‘loudest band of New York’ any better ourselves. Or\nmaybe: "The most ear-shatteringly loud garage/shoegaze\nband you’ll ever hear" wrote The Washington Post.\nWe're already head-over-heels from their debut of the\nsame name (in America released via Killer Pimp\, in Europe\nvia Rocket Girl) … We hear My Bloody Valentine and also\nThe Jesus and Mary Chain (in the ‘Psychocandy’ days) and\nalso the then seriously under-estimated Head Of\nDavid.It's clear that things are happening around A\nPlace To Bury Strangers. MGMT took them on tour through\nEurope last year\, just as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and\nNine Inch Nails did with them in the US. Although this band\nfrom Brooklyn is a trio\, guitarist/singer Oliver Ackermann\ncan clearly be called the pivotal figure. Ackermann not only\nrecorded almost everything for their debut but also runs an\neffect-pedal factory (annex recording studio annex concert\nspace) called Death By Audio. Ackermann’s pedals (that\nanswer to names like Total Sonic Annihilation or\nInterstellar Overdriver) are often defining for the sound of\nA Place To… Sometimes Ackermann even makes a particular\npedal for one specific song. And not unimportant: amongst\nhis clients you can find the likes of U2\, Wilco and also\nLightning Bolt. Even a DJ-set with effect-pedals is in the\nmaking. Our offer is already on the way. Lastly\, we\nwon't keep this quote to ourselves\, from a concert\norganiser who had A Place To… visiting: "I've\nonly had to wear earplugs twice in my entire life and both\ntimes were tonight". A\nPlace To Bury Strangers - I Know I'll See You \n
