DESCRIPTION:33 1/3 CLASSIC ALBUM LISTENING SESSION    SURFER ROSA - THE\nPIXIES    4AD\, 32min5sec\, released: 21 March 1988     \nPlease note that this is not a concert but a Listening\nSession!         These days\, it's difficult to still\nimagine how revolutionary\, freaky and futuristic Surfer\nRosa sounded at its release in 1988 and what an influence\nthe album had upon the (guitar) bands that surfaced at the\nend of the ’80's\, early ’90's.         May we\nsummarise very simply?    No Nirvana without Surfer Rosa.   \n(So no Foo Fighters without Surfer Rosa either.)    No PJ\nHarvey without Surfer Rosa.    No dEUS without Surfer Rosa. \n  No Radiohead without Surfer Rosa.    No Smashing Pumpkins\nwithout Surfer Rosa (but would we mind?).    This list could\neasily be extended by at least ten bands that would not have\nexisted if they hadn't bought the Pixies' debut\nalbum in 1988.         Surfer Rosa may certainly be seen as\na milestone in rock history and meant the breakthrough for\nthe Pixies\, who later reached an even broader audience with\na more pop sound (Doolittle\, Bossanova).         So\nit's high time to dedicate a Classic Album Listening\nSession in the cosy Huis 23 to it and listen together\, at\nour leisure\, to a vinyl copy of this impressive album. The\nsession will be introduced (in Dutch) by Marnix Peeters\,\nauthor\, ex-music journalist for the likes of RifRaf\, Oor\,\nDeng and Humo\, and right-from-the-start Pixies fan.        \nYou can attend this listening session free-of-charge by\nregistering via reservationshuis23@abconcerts.be (making\nmention of ‘Surfer’ in the subject title)               \n33 1/3 – Classic Album Listening Sessions    The idea\nbehind Huis 33 1/3 is as simple as can be: music lovers\ngathering to listen to a 'classic' album -\nuninterrupted and in the most ideal circumstances possible\n(technical equipment\, surroundings\,..) - and introduced by\nan adept of the album in question.         With this new\nseries\, we want to offer an alternative to the way the\nmusical experience has evolved over recent years. By\nlistening to considerably compressed mp3’s\, YouTube\nfilms\, or to sites like Spotify with small small earplugs\nor via laptop speakers\, we miss essential elements of the\nmusic... often without even realising it.        Many albums\nwere created as an artwork in themselves and so deserve to\nbe listened to in their entirety. A great deal of attention\nwas paid to obtaining the best possible sound quality\, the\nartwork\, the playing order of the songs\, the mood of the\nsongs and the ‘story’ the artist wanted to involve the\nlistener in. In many cases\, no effort was spared to record\nthe albums in the best studios\, in order to make use of the\nbest sounding mixing tables\, microphones\, pre-amps\,\ncompressors\, reverbs\, etc... All of this is completely\ndestroyed in just a few mouse-clicks.
