Impressive folk-singer – familiar with the catalogues of Alan Lomax and Harry Smith!
Willie Watson is a real americana-, country- and roots-archivist. Once a part of Old Crow Medicine Show, but now on to his solo 'Folksinger, Vol. 2'. It is adorned with gems of 'southern gospel, railroad songs, delta blues, Irish fiddle tunes, Appalachian music...' The sort of striking and often covered folk songs – like 'Gallows Pole' or 'Midnight Special' –that we usually know more from Led Zeppelin or The Rolling Stones. But a tasteful cover of ACDC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap should be permitted sometimes too. Even a role in the Coen brothers’ 'The ballad of Buster Scruggs' turned out to perfectly suited this cowboy, with some excellent work on the soundtrack too, of course.
For fans of David Rawlings, Gillian Welch, Leadbelly, Harry Smith, Alan Lomax...
Fun fact You can also head to guitar brand Larrivée for an exclusive 'Willie Watson signature model'. And, when he’s not on tour, the man sometimes sews up some sustainable jeans (as a one-man-business, to be ordered via his site).
