Minimal electronica-pioneer in search of a tonal orgasm
German sound-expert Thomas Brinkmann carried out pioneering work in the area of experimental music, specifically in underground minimal techno. Whereas many have labelled his work as “Studio Madness” – working on the same sound for days on end, in search of a tonal orgasm – he is renowned amongst fanciers as a revolutionary and visionary studio-engineer.
He has been experimenting with music for 30 years now (with both own material and reworked versions of songs by the likes of Richie Hawtin) and established the minimalistic label Max Ernst. His latest album ‘What You Hear (Is What You Hear)’, released on the famous Editions Mego label, is an album full of repetitive, minimalistic rhythms that dance on the boundary between sound-structure and ambient. A must-see for every experimental electronica fan!
