Wonderful double-bill full of delectable old school soul, funk and rocksteady
The vocal skills of soul singer Durand Jones were revealed under the influence of his grandmother who sent him to the local choir in Louisiana because he sang just a little too much at home. His flawless voice was perfectly suited to gospel but very soon his heart moved on to deep soul. Their self-titled debut – with backing band The Indications – from ’16 will soon be re-released via Dead Oceans (see: Strand Of Oaks, Phoebe Bridgers …), together with brand new work, and will no doubt result in their European breakthrough.
Opener Chris & Charlie is the brand new band of Christiane and Charlotte Adigéry (WWWater) or: mother and daughter who sing the praises of Jamaican soul/rocksteady with members of Internationals and Whodads.
