Artist Talk & listening session with Wolf Eyes-member John Olson
BRDCST is AB’s outstanding indoor spring festival spotlighting musical boundlessness. The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of the English band Broadcast that released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation form the focal point for BRDCST. Our musical gut feeling will do the rest.
Jack White is still a busy bee. Aside from his musical activities – he’s already had an own label (the famous Third Man Records) for a while now – he also launched an actual book imprint in ’15: Third Man Books. That company recently released ‘Total Chaos: The Story Of The Stooges as told by Iggy Pop’ and also ‘Life Is A Rip Off’ by 1/3 of Wolf Eyes, John ‘Inzane’ Olson. Olson – who also runs the underground (cassette) label American Tapes – decided to release a review every day for a year, of albums/singles/cassettes that inspired or influenced him.
His knowledge of underground noise is known, but Olson surfs equally easily from (dub) reggae (Prince Jazzbo, Ranking Trevor) to jazz (Impulse! Records is among his favourites), prog, black metal and punk to then end up at ancient blues (Howlin’ Wolf, Big Bill Broonzy).
Together we listen to chatterbox Olson and the reasons for his choices and hope to discover if Satan Panonski, Uku Kuut, Nade Iz and XHOL sounds more like gospel or black metal. Could ‘Piss On Your Wounds’ by Demands also help with jellyfish bites?
Admittance is free of charge according to the principle of ‘first come, first served.’
This also applies to those with a Limited BRDCST Festival Pass.
