Experimental synth-pop phenomenon with successor to‘Visions’
Eccentric Canadian Claire Boucher presented the sublime ‘Visions’ in 2012 and the enthralling electronic mishmash combined with Boucher’s high, somewhat creepy angelic voice struck like a perfectly aimed hipster-bomb. Add to that her distinct personality, mildly tormented soul, bold statements about drug use and the ‘Best New Music’ stamp of approval from Pitchfork and you instantly understand why Grimes became sought-after property in hipsterland.
She disappeared from the synth-pop stage, tossed away an entire completed album and turned up in the blogosphere again in March 2015 with choice single ‘REALiTi’. After that, there was a summer tour in the wake of Lana Del Rey and the fine news that the new album would follow in October… on 4AD once again, homebase to the likes of Ariel Pink, Daughter, Efterklang, Sohn and Bon Iver. “The alien love-child of Aphex Twin and ABBA” returns!
