BRDCST is AB’s outstanding indoor spring festival spotlighting musical boundlessness. The name is a direct reference to the retro futuristic electronica-pop of the English band Broadcast that released inspiring albums like ‘Haha Sound’ and ‘Noise Made By The People’ over the past decade. Artists who feel strongly about musical innovation form the focal point for BRDCST. Our musical gut feeling will do the rest.
In-house label CONSOULING SOUNDS (right from the 1st edition, BRDCST gave this characteristic label from Ghent carte blanche for three years) presents an impressive programme under the theme ‘Ogentroost’, whereby the focus is on drones and dark soundscapes.
Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe’s solo project – Empusae – is bathed in complexity and surrealism. It sounds like one long, stretched out, exciting soundscape of dark melancholy and moody ambient. Nicolas presents his new album during this evening, one which explores the theme ‘Ogentroost’.
As CHVE, Colin H. Van Eeckhout (high-priest of overwhelming collective Amenra) has already been exorcising his inner demons solo for a while now, armed with a hurdy-gurdy, a series of loops/effects and his imposing, intriguing throat. On debut ‘Rasa’ – filled with meditative soundscapes, drones and ritual folk – he digs in the direction of the essence of his very own soul.
MEDEAMATERIAL (AN OPERA BY LAB.ORATORIUM // INNERWOUD + ASTRID STOCKMAN) (b)Pieter-Jan Van Assche – the man behind Innerwoud – wrote a wonderful opera (‘Medea’) together with Astrid Stockman. For BRDCST he releases a special version of it, tailored to the theme ‘Ogentroost’.
TREHA SEKTORI (fr)
France’s Treha Sektori – solo project of Dehn Sora – presents dark, amazing ambient that creates an entire own universe.
BARST & KAREN WILLEMS (b)
Barst’s spatial hypnotic drones and Karen Willems’s signature percussive style work together like a charm.
There’s just something about these artists collaborating in a free improv setting that makes sense and sends sparks flying.
At BRDCST this will be no different, as both artists will perform a set relying on blind trust and blindly following each other’s lead.
A-SUN AMISSA (uk)
With instrumental British collective A-Sun, Amissa presents soft, moody drones with melodic snares and field recordings. Always intense live.
