Klein & La Rocca tell us about their unique Billie Holiday project
Billie Holiday – one of the most unique voices that the jazz world has ever brought forth – would have turned 100 this year. AB fully celebrates this, of course! Early on in the year, with New York’s José James who presented his Blue Note album and Lady Day tribute ‘Yesterday I Had The Blues’ to a sold-out venue. This fall it will be our very own Dani Klein who will shine her light on the work of Billie Holiday.
Dani Klein threw herself into the rich oeuvre of Billie Holiday together with three illustrious jazz musicians – contrabassist Sal La Rocca, pianist William Lecomte and trumpet player Tim De Jonghe. That has now resulted this fall in the album ‘Dani sings Billie’, whereby she went for the less highlighted side of Lady Day: cheerful and up-tempo.
Klein and La Rocca come to provide a little context for this unique project prior to the commencement of their concert. The (bi-lingual) conversation will be led by Kurt Overbergh, artistic director of AB and Billie Holiday-lover.
Admittance is free of charge but seats are limited, so please register via reservationshuis23@abconcerts.be (making mention of ‘Klein’ in the subject title)
