In 1913, Italian Luigi Russolo wrote his futuristic manifest THE ART OF NOISE (L’Arte Dei Rumori) in which he proposed that music must adjust itself to the new industrial age and be a reflection of the noisy city, with its 'hissing, squeaking, groaning, thumping, shuddering and shaking”. Noise basically. Russolo was also a maker of musical instruments, including the Russolophone and ‘intonarumori’ or ‘noise machines’.
The Art Of Noise focuses upon the (underground) noise phenomenon in all its forms and crossovers. AB has already warmly embraced this genre in the past and has welcomed the likes of Wolf Eyes, Russell Haswell, Fuck Buttons, Sunn O))), Black Dice, Health, Moonchild (John Zorn & Mike Patton),…
The Art Of Noise is the antithesis of the AB's just recently launched new series Silence Is Sexy, which focusses on so-called (new) contemporary classical composers that are increasingly gaining popularity in the field of 'pop music'.
