The Feeërieën are now in their sixth edition already. But we're still wary of the Peter Principle. To grow musically: with pleasure! To become more international than ever: gladly too! But for the Feeërieën it doesn't have to become ‘big – bigger – biggest’. After all, it is exactly that tangible, small-scale, and intimate enjoyment of not immediately well-known (although: Grizzly Bear already appeared on the bandstand in '06) but, most importantly, impressive talent is just what makes the Feeërieën unique.
We couldn't capture the spirit of the Feeërieën better than De Standaard once worded it: “Once a year the Warande Park in Brussels transforms into a fairy-tale forest where weird and wonderful music resounds. Between trees strewn with colourful lights. The musicians who play here - for a still-as-a-mouse, usually seated, audience - are masters of melancholy. All this takes place under a thick leafy ceiling, on a bandstand that bathes in misty blue lights. A fata morgana such as you have never seen.”
The programme is already looking more international than ever, with performers from Poland, Germany, UK and the US. Aside from that, this year we have an entire theme-evening concerning ethno-musicologist Alan Lomax, who will also play a key role in the AB's end of year programme. Musically we'll be hopping from bluegrass, prepared piano’s, electro-acoustic music to jazz and ukuleles. Everything is possible at the Feeërieën. As long as it serves the generally intimate atmosphere. You have no good reason not to pass by. The natural surroundings are the backdrop. We provide the soundtrack. Enjoy, is the message. Outdoor cocooning is to become the new norm.
