DOMINO '08, and it's the 12th edition already. We are still (in fact, now more than ever) true to our mission statement: 'to serve as a launch pad for lesser known names & less obvious genres in the margins of pop music'. And all, needless to say, in line with the AB philosophy: unknown, but preferably for the widest possible audience. The basic principle also remains unaltered: established musical anchors alongside one or two discovery acts, making for one evening's entertainment.
As ever, the setting is essential. On any given evening you can attend a screening of short film or documentary; (inter) national DJs provide the right soundtrack for the night; you can attend pre-listening sessions and hear records not yet available in the stores, and, you can learn more / read up on your music at a fine musical bookstand stocked with the kind of reading and visual material that is usually hard to find. To put it briefly: we have everything the restless and inquisitive musical visitor might need. Domino - something solid to grab hold in these days when everyone is zapping and the MySpace / YouTube jungle reigns.
In this edition you will find us genre hopping - between tape loops, avant hop, dubstep, (Japanese) psychedelics, anti-folk, new weird folk, Americana and minimal electronics… In other words, we are showing off artists with a vision of their own, simple as that.
