Exquisite neo-folk triple bill with the likes of:

8:00 pm - Kiss The Anus of A Black Cat (b)
Kiss The Anus of A Black Cat or rather Stef Irritant or even Stef Heeren recently released his most impressive and most accessible album to date, in the form of fourth album 'Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water'. Stef Irritant evolved from drone-folk to more song-oriented, dark folk on his albums. Lets just say: there where Current 93, Angels of Light and (more than ever) Woven Hand meet one another after midnight. ‘Hewers Of Wood…’ is also the first album to be recorded in a real recording studio, by the grace of Koen Gisen who also provided the album's production. The reviews are not wrong: ***** (Cutting Edge), “Classy” (Soundslike) or “This is music of an international level such as the better work of Woven Hand or Bonnie 'Prince' Billy” (Kindamuzik).

9:00 pm - Ryan Francesconi (us)

"One of the most awe-inspiring musicians I’ve known … This is solo music that sounds like an ensemble ... it is nearly impossible to believe he’s picking those strings with one hand”
  (Joanna Newsom)

Multi-instrumentalist Ryan Francesconi is best ‘known’ for his contribution to Joanna Newsom’s masterpiece ‘Ys’ and the arrangements on her latest triple-release ‘Have One On Me’. With ‘Parables’ (via Drag City), Francesconi now debuts under his own name rather than his illustrious moniker RF. Ryan plays acoustic guitar on the album and presents his personal interpretation of traditional Bulgarian folk, American bluegrass and jazz improvisation. To conclude with the opinion of the venerable Boomkat: “One of the year's best solo instrumental records”.

10:00 pm - Wooden Wand (us)
Wooden Wand is the alter-ego of singer-songwriter and neo-folk busy-bee James Jackson Toth, who previously released albums under the name Wooden Wand and The Vanishing Voice and also Wooden Wand and The Sky High Band. His latest album ‘Death Seat’ has been released via Michael Gira's renowned Young God Records and involved collaboration by members of Lambchop, Silver Jews and Mercury Rev, amongst others. Webzine Boomkat wrote of it: “A quite exceptional alt. country record from one of the Tennessee music scene's great outsiders.” Wooden Wand will appear solo this evening.

Truly magnificent concert from Wooden Wand!!! It was just a shame that Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat could not have decency to stop chatting with their chums at the back of auditorium while WW was playing. Their 'post-concert party' during James' acoustic set was one of the worst cases of musicians' non-solidarity and disregard I have seen for many years.
