Psychedelic ‘dream pop’ from Texas at its best.

Spotted at SXSW in Texas and immediately approved. It all happened at an evening organised by Altered Zones, let's just say: the darkside of the influential Pitchfork or rather: for if you want to dig even deeper musically.

8:00 pm Pure X (us)
Pure X – or Pure Ecstasy if you like – is a trio from Texas, fiercely befriended with that other band on this billing: Sleep ∞ Over. The debut ‘Pleasure’ was released via Acephale Records (Salem, Porcelain Raft, Kingdom,…) and contains quite some echoes of Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and also – brace yourself – The Everly Brothers. Pitchfork blessed the album with a solid 7.6, that's an honour. That other influential music-blog Strereogum already placed them in their ‘Top 20 albums of 2011 so far’ too.

9:00 pm Sleep ∞ Over (us)
"What Beach House might sound like if they played in a graveyard." (Pitchfork)
This ‘dream-pop outfit’ Sleep ∞ Over also hails from Austin, Texas. Their debut ‘Forever’ is to be released later this year on Hippos In Tanks, the label on which Hype Williams, Games (=1/2 Oneohtrix Point Never) and Laurel Halo also reside. Sleep ∞ Over has barely been around for a year and it revolves around frontlady Stefanie Franciotti. We certainly hear many echoes of Beach House, Cults and psychedelic dream-pop at its best. Balam Acab is a fan too and already ventured a remix.
