Modern day chanson? Very beautiful, heavenly music in every way. Rodrigo Leao is a Portuguese 'sintetizador' (synthesiser) player who has released 9 atmospheric CDs since his superb solo debut 'Ave Mundi Luminar' in 1993. His latest, 'A Mãe' (2009), is an emotional highpoint and a seasoned ode to his deceased mother.
Beautiful music made by beautiful folk: in the past Rodrigo Leão worked with Beth Gibbons or Ryuichi Sakamoto, and, we hear on 'A Mãe' the voices of Stuart A. Staples, Neil Hannon and Melingo, among others.
Also, the CD stayed at no.1 in the Portuguese hit parade for weeks.
