More than exquisite triple-bill for those who want a taste of and an immersion in ‘hypnagogic pop’ and ritualistic percussive jams…

8:00 pm - Dolphins into the Future
Dolphins into the Future is the alter-ego of Lieven Martens who has a love for analogue audio mediums and also runs the cassette labels (yes indeed: they still exist!) Taped Sounds and Cetacean Nation. The former serves as a conduit for acts he's a fan of, the latter is his outlet for his own work. Cetacean means ‘whale sorts’, so it's no wonder that Martens incorporates a lot of dolphin sounds in his music or that one of his offshoot labels is called ‘De Dolfijn Verdient een Pluim Cassettes’. The new-age mood is never far removed. He also releases on international labels like Sweden's Release The Bats or America's Not Not Fun. The Wire even dedicated an entire page to his album ‘The Music Of Belief’ and referred to both The Orb, Steve Hillage (Gong, System 7) as well as Boards Of Canada and even used the term Hypnagogic Pop. Really, in our opinion, De Dolfijn Verdient een Pluim (The Dolphin Deserves a Compliment)!

9:00 pm - Oneohtrix Point Never (us)
Oneohtrix Point Never is the solo-project of musician Daniel Lopatin from Brooklyn. AT the end of ’09 he suddenly landed in leading magazine The Wire, amongst the Top 3 best albums of ’09, with his document of the times ‘Rifts’ (via noise label No Fun): a compilation of his first three albums, on which synthesizer experiments merge with drones, noise, ambient and electronic krautrock. The Wire even invented a new genre for it: ‘hypnagogic pop’ (auditive tip: listen to the compilation ‘Hypnagogic Heat Haze’ put together by Boomkat) to which they also assign Ariel Pink and Pocahaunted. Hypnagogic pop? According to The Wire “music that reaches beyond its performers' abilities. It refashions 80s chart pop-rock into a hazy, psychedelic drone. It is listening to Beverly Hills Cop and hearing the music of the spheres. It is the sound that remains after the boys of summer have gone". Oneohtrix Point Never’s latest album ‘Returnal’  - beautifully designed by Stephen O’ Malley (Sunn O)))) - was released via Viennese electronica label Editions Mego and received rave reviews. The news got to Antony Hegarty too and he will be releasing an acoustic version of the title song later this year (and a remix by labelmate Fennesz). Finally: if you're struggling with his artist's name: Lopatin advises you to simply say OPN “because it’s easy and has an NIN vibe to it.”

10:15 pm - Master Musicians of Bukkake (us)
According to their MySpace, casual collective Master Musicians of Bukkake consists of ‘everyone and no one’. Yet: those who dig a little deeper will notice that these Master Musicians have become a consistent collective containing members from the likes of Earth, Burning Witch and Grails. Their debut 'The Visible Sign of the Invisible Order' was released in ’04 on Abduction Records, label of the famous Sun City Girls. Their reputation has grown to new heights since the release of the trilogy ‘Totem One’ (dedicated to those same Sun City Girls),‘Totem 2’ to ‘Totem 3’ that is to be released late this year. What connects the albums musically? Dark soundscapes, tribal rhythms, ritually percussive jams, psychedelica and Eastern-influenced folk. Live, it is just as compelling as it is alienating, as the members of Master Musicians are always swathed in black robes … something else, aside from drones, that they have in common with soulmates Sunn O))).
