Tutu Revisited - The Music of Miles Davis Featuring Christian Scott

TUTU Revisited indeed: the last integral masterpiece from the legendary Miles Davis by the man who wrote the most songs and played the most instruments: premier league bassist Marcus Miller.  'Tutu' dates from 1986 and was instantly one of the funky highlights of that year: jazzy dance music and groovy avant garde. Just one of the many successful risks in the career of illustrious trumpet-player Miles Davis. The first of his many recordings already dated from 1945, but it was especially with the albums  'Kind Of Blue', 'Bitches Brew' and 'Tutu' that he was able to explore and stretch boundaries.
Shall we just situate Marcus Miller too? Beautifully streamlined, strongly built, sharply played and funky rock-jazz-fusion from the top shelf. You surely recognize him as bassist to Miles Davis, Aretha Franklin, Boz Scaggs, Me’shell NdegéOcello, Scritti Politti, George Benson, Joan Armatrading and many more sensational sessions. There are already more than 570 productions mentioned on his website, with his own 30 or so CDs placed neatly in alphabetical order between all those other great talents.
Marcus Miller presents Tutu Revisited here + of course a little tasty, juicy, funky, extra something!

Guys, it was the best concert of Marcus I've seen since he came in Gent and last year in the AB. True that the sax was amazing (22 years only!) but that is not that easy to kind of replace Miles and play "his" tunes like Tutu, ... Christian made it very well. Half the concert they played a very quite song and Alex Han was really impressive. So much emotion that Marcus was even confused for quite some time after the song. The drummer is maybe not the finest one, but he is certainly a very storng one: amazing energy and solo!!! Last but not least, Marcus gave us again so much pleasure, groove, energy, emotion and ... FUN ;-)

What an awesome concert ! Ik kende die Christian Scott wel, wist dus dat hij heel goed was, maar die saxofonist, Alex Han, was zo mogelijk nog beter en dan die drummer, wat een talent ! Om nog te zwijgen van Marcus Miller zelf natuurlijk. Dit is wellicht het meest funky concert dat ik ooit gezien heb. Kurt, merci !!

Maximus Marcus, Prima Miller, wat een speler en bandleader: totaalgeluid en solo-uitspattingen mega aangenaam, net genoeg retro, maar vooral: vitaal actueel speelplezier (noem het maar jazz, jos, het was voorste klasse super fusion fun voor wie daar dik op kickt: ik!)
