‘Invented’, the seventh studio album by Jimmy Eat World, comes out on 24 September. You can already listen to their new single ‘My Best Theory’ on their website. Formed in 1993 in Mesa, Arizona, the band has come a long way. Starting out as a punk rock group influenced by Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate, the foursome developed the blueprint of what is now known as emo. Singer/guitarist Jim Adkins & co. became the first major emo band of the pre-MySpace era in 2001 following the release of ‘Bleed American’. They had further successes with the albums ‘Futures’ in 2004 and ‘Chase This Light’ in 2007. To present their new album to their Belgian audience, Jimmy Eat World will return to the AB once more on 4 November.

‘Omni’ is American five-piece Minus The Bear's follow up to ‘Planet Of Ice’. This will be released this summer, days after their Pukkelpop concert. The band has been appearing on our radar since 2005 (with the CD ‘Menos El Oso’). The varied and adventurous, even athletically arranged songs wrong-footed the public again and again, but nevertheless those melodies stayed in one's head for days. A blend of pure pop, indie rock, jazz and progressive rock with references to bands like Battles, Mew, Karate or Death Cab For Cutie. ‘One of modern pop’s more creative rock bands’ (Drowned In Sound)

Gennekak, do bands always have to keep the same style as their first album? There's a lot of bands like that and they're simply boring.

2 mongooltjes vooraan vonden het nodig om te vechten, concert even stilleggen, sfeer verpest. Volgende keer naar de voetbal jongens, daar kan je zoveel vechten als je wil.

Minus the Bear bracht een solide set, een soort BestOf van hun laatste 3 cds, maar niemand leek ze te kennen. Strakke drummer, Guitarist met Angus Young ambities en een sterke zanger. Doodzonde. Afgesloten werd er met prijsbeest Pachuca Sunrise, maar ook dat zonder herkenningsapplaus van het publiek.

Verpletterend concert, de deur intrappen met een van hun beste nummer, Bleed American, en niet afgeven tot het einde met er bovenop een verpletterende bis, een prachtig 23, en stomende versies van the Middle en the Sweetnes. Hoogtepunt voor mij was zonder twijfel een knallende versie van Pain. De thuisblijvers hadden ongeliijk.

Jimmy Eat World was OK, but why do great bands always have to change styles and go for easy-listening albums in their further career? The crowd went nuts with all songs played of "Bleed American". They must notice that themselves every concert they play, so why not stick with that style?

Hun versie van Superchunk's "Precision Auto" wil ik wel eens horen, die komt op de deluxe versie van de nieuwe plaat. Superchunk = all time fav' band.

Hopelijk revancheren ze zich een beetje met die nieuwe plaat want de vorige zoog een beetje (veel) door overproduktie (Butch Vig, niet?) en een overvloed aan onnozele teksten. De nieuwe single klinkt alvast goed, alhoewel de dagen van Static Prevails en Bleed American ver achter ons liggen.
