Boo! That was the name of this South African's previous band. In the meantime, the versatile Chris Chameleon has also been soundly launched as a solo performer, with 4 CDs already, with especially the latest 'Ek Vir Jou' as jewel (and out here on the alert Excelsior label – see too: Fixkes and Spinvis!)
This singer-songwriter does it in English and South-African, with a charismatic stage personality and a staggering voice with a range of four octaves. The prizes and CD sales are piling up in his homeland but high praises resound here too: ‘The man really is a magnificent singer, has a fantastic range. This is an exceptional talent.’ (OOR); ‘Chameleon sings so warmly and his subtle, African influenced music is so impassioned that he effortlessly carries you away to a distant, other world.’ (ALGEMEEN DAGBLAD); ‘Ek Vir Jou is especially written to entertain. Something this chameleon succeeds well in.’ (REVOLVER);
Maybe you already saw Chris at work with Stef Kamil Carlens or with Spinvis or at a previous Dranouter? Know that many of his 'songs' have already even been translated by Gerrit Komrij!
The latest album 'Ek Vir Jou' is the first official Benelux release. The album is bursting with fine African-language songs and is a concept album that describes love, from first sight up to and including separation. Dis ek vir jou en jy vir my ne?

Chris Chameleon was gisteren in de jammerlijk lege AB Club adembenemend innemend. Vrijuit verhalend en met niet geheel vrijblijvende teksten, raakte hij je meermaals tot op je naakte zijn. Of raakte je jezelf, met interpretaties van zijn Zuid-Afrikaans. Wat gitaargetokkel en vooral getover met zijn stem (een volledig zangkoor en zeven instrumenten schuilen in 's mans onaardse banden) overtuigden moeiteloos. Solo op bas (heeft iemand dit ooit al gezien?) verblufte hij met sterke versies van oude BOO!-songs. Enkel wie bij Nick Cave zat in de Arenbergschouwburg had gisteren geen ongelijk voor zijn afwezigheid bij dit straljante concert!

ja, we zijn na twee maanden nog immer zeer benieuwd, ook naar die nieuwe cd 'Kyk hoe lyk ons nou' die blijkbaar net uit is (toch in Zuid Afrika), en die Chris allicht zelf meebrengt? Ek kan nie wag nie!
