Inspirer of Mogwai and contemporary of Slint

More than 2 decades ago, Bitch Magnet (singer/bass player Sooyoung Park, guitarist Jon Fine and drummer Orestes Morfin) held their own in the American post-punk sub-culture. Their debut EP ‘Star Booty’ and the albums ‘Umber’ (that was Mojo Magazine later included in the illustrious list of Lost Albums You Must Own) and ‘Ben Hur’ are milestones in the American underground guitar scene. Battles - who have the honour of putting together the All Tomorrow’s Parties edition in December - managed to convince Bitch Magnet to revive from their eternal sleep. Plans were immediately made to release a box containing their 3 CDs and previously unissued work (out in December on Temporary Residence, the home of Mono, Explosions In The Sky and Grails). After the band's split in 1990, Park continued under the name Seam and Fine was briefly to be found in the line-up of Don Caballero. Together with their contemporaries, Slint, Bitch Magnet was considered to be one of the most important influences for bands like Mogwai and June or 44.

‘Probably more than any other band, Bitch Magnet sent me in the direction I took with the music I have tried to make.’ (Ian Williams - Battles)
‘Inbetween the US noise wave of Sonic Youth and the initial stirrings of grunge....Umber stands a mile high above most of its kin’.  (Mojo)
