Watch here the AB Session of Balanescu.

The Balanescu Quartet is world famous for a reason. Leader Alexander Balanescu has since 1987 been exploring all possible classic, contemporary, avant garde and popular musical territories with his (string) quartet. Hats off to the man who was conductor for Michael Nyman for 15 years, member of the Gavin Bryars Ensemble and the Arditti Quartet, but especially gained fame under his own name with his idiosyncratie and refined collaborations. In approximate and incomplete order: David Byrne, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Pet Shop Boys, Rabih Abou Kahlil, Philip Glass, Carla Bley, Spiritualized, John Lurie... Solo or with his quartet, Romanian Balanescu puts together an extremely far reaching and surprising repertoire, just think of 'Possessed', that witty CD of Kraftwerk covers. Mute must still be the record label, however let yourself be convinced of this beauty live! Balanescu & you!?
