Long live the spirit of The Moldy Peaches & The Shangri-Las!
From the moment we heard the very first notes from Nele Needs A Holiday, during the final of Humo’s Rock Rally in ‘10, we made a pact with ourself: The moment that Nele Van den Broeck's debut sees the light of day, it absolutely must be presented in AB. Now see: our, worldly-worn innocence has persevered.
So much musical cheer – her song titles speak volumes: ‘Loser's Twist’ and ‘I Love You But I Google Other People’ – leaves none unmoved. In her mean folk, friendly lo-fi and acoustic punk you can hear her heroes, like Daniel Johnston and The Moldy Peaches, but also '60s girl groups like The Ronettes, The Chrystals and The Shangri-Las.
She gains inspiration from everyday – very recognizable – life: bad days, feelings of vengeance, painful shoes, tipsiness and complexes. Now all that finery is finally packed in a format you can sing along to, on Nele’s debut ‘It’s My Party’, brought to you live by a real all-star girls-group.
