8th album ‘Kintsugi’ breathes new life into indie-celebs
Celebrity/songsmith Ben Gibbard not only breathed new life into his indie-rock band Death Cab For Cutie with eighth longplayer ‘Kintsugi’ (out since March ’15 on Warner Music), he also got a whopping relationship break-up out of his system. The title of the album refers very appropriately to an old Japanese art form in which broken ceramics are restored to their former glory without glossing over the cracks. The philosophy behind this lies in the fact the breakage and repair are a part of the history of an object.
It's clear that Gibbard was pretty down and on top of that DCFC also had to deal with the departure of veteran Chris Walla, the band's guitarist and producer. So the remaining trio was forced, for the first time in their 18 year career, to shack up with an external producer in order to work on the new songs
