New York cult band returns with new single ‘Mene’
From out of nowhere, and seemingly nonchalantly released on 13 April ’15, the announcement “NEW SITE. NEW VIDEO. NEW SONG” on the Facebook wall of indie-rock quartet Brand New. An insignificant piece of news in the daily, never-ending merry-go-round of social media. But not for the die-hard Brand New-aficionados amongst us…
New single ‘Mene’ is the first official release since fourth longplayer ‘Daisy’ (from 2009) and it arrives exactly 15 years after frontman/demigod Jesse Lacey established the band on New York's Long Island. Together with Thrice, Finch, Glassjaw and Taking Back Sunday (that Lacey briefly played with), the four caused a frenzy on the American emo, post-hardcore and punk scenes. But, just like Thrice, Brand New continued to evolve toward alternative- and indie-rock on second issue ‘Déjà Entendu’. Milestone and third album ‘The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me’ exploded like an atom bomb (“Yeah” at 1’04” on opener ‘Sowing Season’!!) and catapulted them toward cult status.
