Omar free of charge!

Do they really want to get everyone on bicycles? There was already so much propaganda during Boterhammen In Het Park.

And now this.

Every third Sunday in September, over the entire area of ‘the nineteen municipalities’, between 9 am and 7 pm: the Car-Free Sunday (or almost car-free, if you will, as there are still taxis and emergency services and performers driving around.)

AB BICYCLE DRIVE-IN!

You're sure to ride by that one. Or inside. As the plan is again: all doors open in the Steenstraat and you can walk/run/ride/... all the way up to the stage (always fun when bells are also ringing during the applause). The Omar Souleyman concert is planned for 3:00 pm: hopefully you've already done quite some pedaling by then and you'll be on your way afterward to get ahead of all those cars taking over the streets again. But around that concert there's plenty of activity to be enjoyed in the Steenstraat too, or more specifically at the neighbouring Café Bonnefooi. Once more, for our veterans: this is indeed one of the few occasions that the AB is again accessible via its original entrance. Those where the days! Keep up!

OMAR SOULEYMAN

We'll just quickly quote a recent Knack Focus: ‘The enigmatic grandmaster of dabke beats from Northern Syria presents a stirring mix of folkloric dance styles, gathered together from Iraq, Turkey and Kurdistan. The man began as a wedding MC but is now much appreciated in western techno and electro circles. Thanks to the hyperkinetic, Yamaha-keyboard driven beats and high-speed plucking of snared instruments. Was recently requested to remix a few songs for Björk's new album Biophilia and will be playing free-of-charge in the AB on September 18 (Car-Free Sunday!).’
