New Artist in Residence: Drums Are For Parades

Written by Herman Hulsens on 23.03.11

After at least a year and a half of silence, AB launches no less than 3 new Artists In Residence in 2011. The principle remains the same: performers who knock our socks off are in the right place here for a year of support. That’s what we did in the course of 2008/2009 with Selah Sue and The Sedan Vault. That recommendation can go from a support act or Late Night concert, to a photo shoot, to studio time. What’s more, we always place the performer in the big picture, both to the general public and to the sector.

The following performer is a bit of an odd one out, as Drums Are For Parades already sound familiar to quite a few people. But the threesome recently came knocking at the door of Anspachlaan 110 with a somewhat unique project. Whether we, together with them, could realise the recording of a number of songs that they had written especially for specific guest singers and songstresses. So it came that in past weeks a number of tracks have already been recorded in the ABstudio and that in the course of the coming year a few of the songs from this project entitled IMPERIVM will be shared via the internet.

We are already proud to announce the first song: ‘Psychosis’ containing the voice of none less than Chris Goss. This legendary producer (Kyuss, Unkle, Queens of the Stone Age, our very own Soulwax) is of course also the frontman of Masters Of Reality, which was a part of the Palm Desert scene (again, see: Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age).

This song will be available exclusively – and, what’s more, free of charge - via www.drumsareforparades.net as of Wednesday 30 March. On that day the band will also play a showcase in Café Central in Brussels, located right near the AB, it all starts at 10:30 pm.
