This autum, AB will be presenting a homage to American ethno-musicologist Alan Lomax. Thanks to the pioneering work of this man who passed away in 2002, everyone and anyone can become acquainted with the earliest recorded folk songs. Together with his father, John, he was responsible for the discovery of blues legend Leadbelly and folk icon Woody Guthrie and in so doing he became the most important staff member of the Archive of Folk Song of the Library of Congress in Washington.

As part of this homage, AB will be supporting the Lullabies project of the non-profit organisation Playing The Past, from Ghent. On Saturday 18 April Bas Bogaerts and Eva Schampaert depart on a 5 month expedition through 21 countries along the Mediterranean Sea. Their goal is, in the spirit of Alan Lomax, to collect traditional lullabies. They will record these songs on the spot with mobile recording-equipment and the rawest form possible. Sung from mother to child, grandmother to grandchild, brother to sister ... As of autumn, they will present their fieldwork to a broader audience in the form of concerts, a publication and a travelling bedroom.
 
The first day of the route commences from playhouse CAMPO in Ghent, where we will officially wave them off. A small group of motorcyclists will accompany them as far as the Ardennes, where a first steak awaits them. The route for this departure day will be set out by world travelers Trui Hanoulle and Gaea Schouters, better known from ‘Meisjes, Moslims en Motoren’.
