AB 100% green energy

At the initiative of the Brussels Region's Department of Environment, in early 2008 we - together with 9 other small and medium sized enterprises in Brussels from very diverse sectors (hospitality, printing, garage, culture, etc…) - entered into a pilot project to calculate environmental impact, the so-called ecological footprint. To do this, a specific calculator was developed for each sector,  in collaboration with WWF, Ecolife, Groupe One and Eco-Conseil Entreprise. It's worth mentioning that by changing to 100% green electricity the AB has reduced its ecological footprint from 517,80 gha to 363,87 gha. This is a reduction of our environmental impact by just about 30% annually.

Green energy is electricity that is generated from renewable sources, such as wind, sun, water and biomass.
According to the European climate plan of 23 January 2008, Belgium must increase its share of renewable energy from 2,2% in 2005 to 13% in 2020, in this way we as AB do our bit too.

(The ecological footprint is an indicator that attempts to measure the amount of bioproductive land needed to produce what an individual, a country, a city or an enterprise consumes and needed to absorb the waste produced. Gha = Global hectare is 1 hectare of the biologically productive area of land and water (e.g. forests, pastures, fields, …) that provides us with necessary resources like foodstuffs, wood, fibres…)
